Cake Mix Brownies

Cake Mix Brownies

From North of the Boulevard~

When in need of a chocolate fix, sometimes, there is nothing better than a rich, chewy brownie. Not wanting to spend the time to make them from scratch, I did a quick search in my pantry for a mix. To my dismay, there was not one to be found. There was, however, a devil's food cake mix. Off to Pinterest I went in search of the perfect made from a cake mix brownie recipe.

I did not expect to find so many variations. After scanning over a ton of them and reading some comments about the various recipes, I decided to try one I found on Cookies & Cups. Unlike some of the other recipes I found, this one has a special ingredient that was just too tempting to pass over. I tweaked the recipe I  found there just a little and the result was a batch of soft, chewy, moist brownies. Exactly what I was craving!

  • 1 box devil's food cake mix
  • 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 egg
  • 12 ounce package of Wilton's candy melts~the special ingredient

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Spray a 9x9 inch pan with baking spray
  • Mix cake mix, oil, milk and the egg  in a large bowl, stirring with wooden spoon until well blended
  • Add in the candy melts and continue stirring. The batter will be very thick.
  • Spread into baking pan evenly
  • Bake for twenty to twenty five minutes
  • Allow to cool completely before cutting

There are many things to love about this recipe, but one thing that I really loved is that the edges of the brownie did not overcook and become hard. I always seem to have that problem with a traditional brownie mix. These were soft all over and those candy melts add to the smooth texture.

I've found a new go to recipe for the next time that brownie craving hits!
