One Good Thing

One Good Thing

We’re starting a new series of posts we’re calling One Good Thing. Each Friday, we’ll be choosing one good thing from the week prior. While lots of good things can be found throughout the week, this is a place to spotlight one in particular. It might be something as simple as a great meal we had or a blog post that particularly inspired us. It could be something awesome that happened in our lives or in the world around us. Some will be from Gloria and some from Beverly. They will be short snippets of what made us stop and think, “Well that was a good thing!” We would love to have anyone share with us their on One Good Thing.

Valentine's Mantel

Valentine's Mantel Decor

From North of the Boulevard~

While creating several Valentine's craft items this year, I decided to do a Valentine's Day themed mantel and fireplace. This is not something I've done in the past, but I have to say, I had fun putting it all together. I think I've found a new tradition. I've combined my DIY crafts with some Dollar Tree finds to pull the heart themed look together.

Table For Two~At Home for Valentine's Day

Dine at Home Valentine's Dinner Decor
,
From North of the Boulevard~

I don't know about you, but going out for a Valentine's Day dinner is not something that we enjoy. Restaurants are crowded, the wait staff is overworked and the ambiance is not what I think of for a romantic dinner for two. To avoid all of that, we started having a dine-in for Valentine's Day years ago. This year will the the eleventh year that we've done Valentine's Day this way and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Book Page Heart

From North of the Boulevard~

I love book page crafts. I've seen so many beautiful creations made from something as simple as pages from a book. I'm amazed at some of the intricate designs I've seen. While I'm not ready to tackle some of the more elaborate book page crafts, I do enjoy making some simple items.

Grapevine Valentine's Wreath

Grapevine Valentine's Day Wreath

From North of the Boulevard~

I'm enjoying creating several Valentine's Day decor items this year. Typically, I don't decorate for Valentine's Day until the day of, but this year, I'm changing things up. I've decided to put together a Valentine's mantel and this little wreath is going to be a focal point. To make this, I combined several different elements and textures.

Hershey Bar Pie

Hershey Bar Pie

From North of the Boulevard~

This recipe has been around for ages. There are a few variations of it out there. If you've made it, you already know how easy it is and how good it tastes. If it's been a while, then this is a reminder!  If not, you should give it a try. It's one of my favorite quick desserts. If you ever want to serve a dessert that's looks and tastes like you spent a long time preparing it when it actually only took about five minutes to put together, then this is for you. It's rich and creamy and melts in your mouth, but I don't think there is a chocolate dessert out there that could be much easier to make than this one.

100 Posts~Not A Big Deal? It Is For Us!

Many bloggers make a note when they hit a year anniversary or two years or some big milestone year. That's not going to work for our blog. We began the blog on a whim in August, 2013 and posted twice that year. Twice. Ha! We knew very little about how blogging works.

Our Recipes

We've decided to add a recipe category to the blog that includes things other than desserts.  When we first created the blog, we intended on posting our favorite dinner recipes, but we got a little side tracked and didn't follow through with the idea. To be honest, we weren't too sure that our simple recipes were particularly post worthy. But, there is a lot to be said for simple, tasty recipes that anyone can make.

Burlap & Hearts Candle Wraps

Burlap and Heart Candle Wraps for Valentine's Day

From North of the Boulevard~

This Valentine's Day project could not be any easier! Adding a burlap wrap to flameless pillar candles, along with a few hearts took these candles from plain to pretty. This project took about ten minutes to put together and part of that time was just waiting on my glue gun to heat up. You can make a similar one with only a few items.

Burlap & Wood Hanging Valentine's Day Sign

Valentine's Sign

From North of the Boulevard~

After I got all my craft supplies organized, I found several items that I wanted to put to use.  I decided I'd get started making a few Valentine's Day decorations. I thought it might be fun to add a few touches here and there around the house. This hanging sign is made with three small wood craft boards, some left over laminated burlap sheets, felt and twine. It was simple to put together.

Completion! Project Home Office/Craft Storage Organization~Step Three

Craft Supply Closet Organization

From North of the Boulevard~

The implementation step of my three steps to reaching a goal is obviously the most daunting, but once the goal has been met, it's definitely worth it! I set out to reorganize my home office and turn a messy closet into a craft supply storage space. I had to do a thorough job of sorting, relocating and discarding. The catch all closet is now a functional craft supply storage closet and I could not be happier with the results.

Adding Some Decorative Touches to Craft Supply Space

Decorative Accents for Craft Closet

I've been busy this week sorting through things my home office/craft supply closet. I managed to clear out the entire closet. While reorganizing my craft supply closet, I decided I wanted to create some decorative holders for various things. I didn't want to spend any money though.  The best part is that I had all of the items I needed on hand.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Mini Cupcakes

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes

From North of the Boulevard~

Do you ever find yourself needing a super quick, super easy sweet snack? Ok, so maybe need isn't the right word, want is probably the word I'm looking for. These little mini cupcakes are just the thing. There is nothing about this "recipe" that is from scratch. This is for those times when you're pressed for time and don't want to expend a great deal of effort.

That's A Lot of Stuff! Project Home Office/Craft Storage Organization~Step Two

Office reorganization

From North of the Boulevard~

The quest for a more organized home office/crafting space continued today. After I finished with Step One yesterday, I was ready to tackle the piles of stuff that I had moved out of the closet, drawers and shelves. It's a good thing I have a pretty large landing just outside of the office door! Putting Step Two into action was a pretty big task.

What's Behind the Door? Project Home Office/Craft Storage Organization~Step One

Home Office Organization Project

From North of the Boulevard~

What's behind the door? Sometimes, it's good to just shut the door and forget about what's inside. That only works for so long though and then it's time to do something about what's behind that closed door! One of my  early goals for this year is to reorganize my home office/craft storage room. So, I've taken the plunge.

Mississippi Mud Cake

Mississippi Mud Cake

From North of the Boulevard~

Starting the New Year off with a dessert recipe like this might not fit in with any fitness goals for this year, but if you're looking for a rich, chocolate dessert, this fits the bill perfectly. A thick chocolate cake, covered in marshmallows and topped with chocolate fudge like frosting makes this a crowd pleasing dessert.
