One Good Thing Week Five

Welcome to week number five in our One Good Thing Series. Each Friday, we will be choosing one good thing from the week prior to highlight.  While lots of good things can be found throughout the week, this is a place to spotlight one in particular. It might be something as simple as a great meal we had or a blog post that inspired us. It could be something awesome that that happened in our lives or in the world around us. It might be something related to our blog. Some will be from Gloria and some from Beverly.  They will all be short snippets of what made us stop and think "Well, that was a good thing!"

We would love to have anyone share their own One Good Thing.

A Small Change Makes a Big Difference

Reupholstered Small Bench

From North of the Boulevard~

I don't lay any claims to being talented when it comes to redoing old furniture. I admire those who have skills to take an old discarded item and turn it into something beautiful. I've got a few pieces that I know are in some serious need of a make over.  This little bench was one of those pieces. It's gone from being tucked away in an out of the way place in my bedroom to a prominent spot in my foyer. It's amazing what a little furniture scratch remover and new upholstery can do for a tired, old, ugly piece of furniture!

Irish Blessing Wall Hanging

Irish Blessing Wall Hanging

From North of the Boulevard~

It's time to turn our attention to St. Patrick's Day! If ever there was a holiday that comes around with a roar, it's this one! What started off as a religious feast has been transformed into a day for celebrating all things Irish-or even things not so Irish-like green beer! It's a fun day for many and a day that can be enjoyed by anyone-Irish or not.

Silk Flowers for the Spring

Silk flowers

From North of the Boulevard~

I'm on a flower making kick lately! After making some spring spoon flowers, I wanted to add some other flowers to my spring time decor. I wanted something soft and pretty and making silk flowers fit that bill perfectly. Like all of my DIY crafts, these are easy to make! Following the method of using a candle, these flowers turn out so pretty.

Spoon Flowers for the Spring

Plastic Spoon Flowers

From North of the Boulevard~

Using plastic spoons for crafts is nothing new, but it's something that I hadn't done, so I thought I'd give it a try. Making flowers seemed like a good  first time spoon craft for me. They are easy to put together and I've got several ideas in mind for using them in my spring time decor.

A Little Bit About Charleston's Charm & Mod Podge Coasters

From North of the Boulevard~

Charleston, SC is one of the most beautiful cities in the country. Living here for the past 10 years has given me an appreciation of just how lovely this historic city truly is. I've got touches of Charleston throughout my home, including these coasters I made using a set of note cards that depict a number of the landmarks around town. Mod Podge, tiles, felt and the note cards are all I needed for this project.

Meatloaf Muffins

Meatloaf Muffins

From North of the Boulevard~

Meatloaf is one of my husband's all time favorite foods. I don't make it very often though because mine never comes out ready to be sliced into nice perfect portions. Mine is always more like meat crumble than meatloaf-just like my mother used to make! When I first saw meatloaf muffins on Pinterest a while ago, I didn't give it much thought. But after my last meatloaf crumble, I thought maybe the muffins were worth a shot. I've been pleased with these and now they are on our menu a lot more often which makes my husband happy!

German Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

German Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

From North of the Boulevard~

On Sunday afternoon while my husband was out doing some shopping for what he said was "something I didn't need to know about yet" I decided to make something sweet for him to have when he got home. After looking through the pantry, I had a collection of ingredients and I wasn't sure what I wanted to make. I knew it should be chocolate-his favorite-but beyond that I didn't know where I was going with this. When I spotted some cup cake liners and various kinds of sprinkles, that's when I decided it would be chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. And sprinkles. Lots of sprinkles!

Champagne Cake Starting With a Box Mix

Champagne Cake

From North of the Boulevard~

Champagne Cake sounds pretty fancy. Making it by starting off with a boxed white cake mix is not so fancy! Gloria found a recipe a few years ago on Betty Crocker Recipes and with a couple of changes, I gave it a try for a birthday cake for her that year. It turned out great! It would make a pretty Valentine's Day dessert, too.

Stars and Stripes Wall Hanging

Stars and Stripes Wall Hanging

From North of the Boulevard~

Presidents' Day is coming up on February 16 in the US. It's a great time to show our patriotic colors. Rather than making a new wreath which is my usual go to decor item, I went a different route.

Presidents' Day Craft For Kids

President's Day Miniature Felt Hats

From North of the Boulevard~

Presidents' Day is coming up soon. It's on February 16 this year. While this is not a holiday that most people typically decorate for, it can be an occasion to have some fun with children by helping them create a couple of quickly recognizable hats worn by two presidents. These are made using empty ribbon rolls, felt and glue.

Valentine Heart Wreath

Felt Valentine's Heart Wreath

From North of the Boulevard~

I was thinking about making a garland with felt hearts for my mantel, but I decided to do something different for my mantel decor. Since I had taken the time to cut lots of hearts before I changed my mind,  I wanted to come with something to use them for. A wreath seemed like a good idea. When my husband brought home several pieces of wire and asked me if I could use them for something, I knew what I wanted to do with all those felt hearts.
