Peach Cobbler~ A Southern Classic Made Easy

Peach Cobbler

From North of the Boulevard~

Peach Cobbler is one of my all time favorite desserts. If I don't choose a chocolate treat, then chances are I'll choose peach cobbler.  It's sweet and gooey and served warm right out of the oven, it's hard to beat for a classic southern comfort food.

German Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

German Chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

From North of the Boulevard~

On Sunday afternoon while my husband was out doing some shopping for what he said was "something I didn't need to know about yet" I decided to make something sweet for him to have when he got home. After looking through the pantry, I had a collection of ingredients and I wasn't sure what I wanted to make. I knew it should be chocolate-his favorite-but beyond that I didn't know where I was going with this. When I spotted some cup cake liners and various kinds of sprinkles, that's when I decided it would be chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. And sprinkles. Lots of sprinkles!

Champagne Cake Starting With a Box Mix

Champagne Cake

From North of the Boulevard~

Champagne Cake sounds pretty fancy. Making it by starting off with a boxed white cake mix is not so fancy! Gloria found a recipe a few years ago on Betty Crocker Recipes and with a couple of changes, I gave it a try for a birthday cake for her that year. It turned out great! It would make a pretty Valentine's Day dessert, too.

Mississippi Mud Cake

Mississippi Mud Cake

From North of the Boulevard~

Starting the New Year off with a dessert recipe like this might not fit in with any fitness goals for this year, but if you're looking for a rich, chocolate dessert, this fits the bill perfectly. A thick chocolate cake, covered in marshmallows and topped with chocolate fudge like frosting makes this a crowd pleasing dessert.

Red Velvet Cake

Red Velvet Cake

From North of the Boulevard~

If there is one dessert that has always been the absolute must have at Christmas for my family, it's Red Velvet Cake. I was happy that there was always someone to make it. My oldest sister was the designated red velvet cake maker for years. Each year she would be the one to bring it to our mother's house where we all gathered for Christmas Eve. Some parents leave out cookies and milk for Santa. We left out red velvet cake. Santa was a big fan of this particular delectable treat! Over the years, as our families grew and spread out, those gatherings on Christmas Eve changed. If I wanted red velvet cake, I was going to have to make it myself.

Buttered Rum Cinnamon Pecans

buttered rum cinnamon pecans

From North of the Boulevard~

I've recently seen several recipes for spiced pecans. Lots of them looked great, but many of them called for cloves, pumpkin spice or egg whites. I'm not a fan of cloves or pumpkin and I wasn't sure about the need for egg whites. So, what do you do when you don't find just what you're looking for? You create your own version!

Crock Pot Chocolate Peanut Clusters

From North of the Boulevard~

I came across a recipe called crock pot candy and thought, "well that's different." I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I was willing to give it a try. If you like the combined flavor of salty peanuts and chocolate, this is a recipe you really need to try. It could not be any easier to make and it makes a ton of candy. It would be a perfect addition to any candy/food gift baskets you might be giving for Christmas.

Orange Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Orange Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

 From North of the Boulevard~

Sometimes easy can be awesome.

My husband loves the combination of chocolate and orange. It’s not a combo that I’d ever really given any thought to until I listened to him rave about it. At his urging I tried a taste of dark chocolate and orange candy a few years ago. It was surprisingly not bad. I didn’t fall in love with it, but I was no longer skeptical that these two flavors do go pretty well together.

Easy Pineapple Blueberry Crumble

Pineapple Blueberry Crumble

From North of the Boulevard~

This is a wonderfully simple, quick and easy dessert. The best part, well aside from eating it, is that it's made in one pan. That equals less clean-up and I'm all for that. I've seen this recipe for years, sometimes called Dump Cake because you just dump all the ingredients into one pan, but that never seemed like such a great name to me. I prefer to call in a crumble.  There are lots of variations of this recipe, so it's hard to narrow it down to give credit.  Mine came about as a trial and error. I tried it with some cinnamon once. I don't recommend that one!

Chocolate Cake With Cream Cheese Filling and Butter Cream Frosting

Triple Chocolate Cake

From North of the Boulevard~

My husband is a chocolate lover.  To him, the more chocolate, the better.  In honor of Father's Day, it's only fitting that he gets his favorite.  I cheated just a little by using a boxed cake mix and enhancing it using the "how to make a box cake taste like a bakery" recipe. While it may not taste just like a bakery cake, it does make an incredibly rich and moist cake. And to be honest, as long as it's chocolate, he isn't going to be too particular about how it was made.

Cake Mix Brownies

Cake Mix Brownies

From North of the Boulevard~

When in need of a chocolate fix, sometimes, there is nothing better than a rich, chewy brownie. Not wanting to spend the time to make them from scratch, I did a quick search in my pantry for a mix. To my dismay, there was not one to be found. There was, however, a devil's food cake mix. Off to Pinterest I went in search of the perfect made from a cake mix brownie recipe.

Ombre Roses Birthday Cake

From South of the Boulevard~

So, my mom's birthday was coming up and of course I start pinning ideas for a cake. What flavor, what design, what colors? Mom decided on a lemon cake this year.  She found a recipe and in the spirit of good blogging, I had to change it a little. I decided to cover the entire cake in roses and do a yellow ombre effect to the cake.  Could this cake scream 2013 pinterest any louder? Who cares!
